Spring is in the Air???
After “Phil” saw his shadow, we are not sure if Spring is going to arrive by the middle of March. It has been unseasonably cold here in Southeast Missouri and most of the Mid-South and Southern states. Looking at the calendar, St. Patrick’s Day (March 17) and Easter (April 4) are almost upon us. I remember it snowing one Easter…and didn’t have a lot of fun looking for Easter eggs. If they hadn’t been dyed, we may still be hunting them!!

If you haven’t purchased that special dress or outfit for Easter, be sure and look at MomandBabyPlace.com in our Baby Boutique. Your child will stand out in a crowd wearing a pretty dress, onesie or little boy’s suit from our collection.

Does your mother still have those old baby shoes (maybe even bronzed) and other mementos from the past?? Mine Does!!! She kept a Roy Rogers outfit that I used to wear. She also placed my tonsils and adenoids in a jar of solution for keeping too!! I haven’t needed any of these things, and I now have grand kids!! However, I do still have some of my Baseball Cards from the 1950’s. I inherited the “pack rat” gene from both sides of the family!!
Each of you will keep different items during your child’s growing up years. To help you display and preserve your keepsakes, we at MomandBabyPlace have several items for this purpose. You will find our “Memory Box” which holds baby’s first tooth, first curl and a silver plated clip to attach to baby’s first pacifier.
When baby is born, we have a Birth Certificate Holder and a Hand & Foot Print Maker, which is included in several of our Baby Gift Baskets. Of course you will have plenty of photos to display. We have Photo Frames, Photo Books, and a Scrap Book for this purpose. Keep up with your child’s growth with one of our Growth Charts.

Well, it’s not long before Valentine’s Day. Do you have that special gift for that “Special Someone”?? My husband is a hopeless romantic and decided he wanted to get married on Valentine’s Day (several years ago). Every year now, a lot of people help us celebrate! Unfortunately, hubby forgets about all the other people and doesn’t make reservations to eat out….so I guess you know what happens! One time, we decided to go ahead and wait the 1 1/2 hours…he grew a beard during the wait….but the meal was worth it. Getting back to the “hopeless romantic”, most of our friends now say it’s true. He’s hopeless and I’m romantic!!

We don’t have many gifts for Mom and Dad at MomandBabyPlace, but we do have gifts for that “little special one”. You will find some Valentine baby clothing and bows. Pick one of these to get ready for that special day!

Here we are beginning a New Year and a New Decade. How did you celebrate this event?? At our age, it doesn’t take as many “fireworks” to ring in the New Year. Are you one to make New Year’s resolutions?? That’s another thing we have given up. Although it would be nice to lose a few pounds, there’s all that left over candy and other fattening things keeping us from making a sincere resolution. It’s a lot easier to just eat the candy and not feel guilty about breaking another resolution.

Have you checked out our “What’s New” section at MomandBabyPlace? Beginning this year, we have added a new section of just “Organic” items. For those of you who have not visited our website in a while, you might want to check out our Diaper Cakes, Gift Baskets and Children’s Furniture.
Here’s wishing you a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year. We look forward to serving you in 2010.

Uncategorized | Comment (0)Do You Have Your Turkey??
It’s about 10 days before Thanksgiving and the rush is on for buying those turkeys. Our local Wally World had turkeys on sale for 40 cents a lb. (limit 2 to a customer). Every time we go, we see a good friend of ours with one under each arm. He keeps a change of clothes in his truck! He must have a BIG deep freeze too! He is quite knowledgeable about turkeys as he used to be the meat dept. manager at another store in town. If you haven’t gotten your turkey yet, get on the stick as you will need to thaw it for a week in the fridge before cooking (ours is still in the friends freezer!)
Meanwhile, back at MomandBabyPlace, we don’t sell turkeys, but we do have bears, penguins, monkeys, elephants, dogs, reindeer and moose….. and we don’t have a limit of 2 on anything you purchase. You won’t find them in the freezer section, as we keep them in the Plush Animals and Baby’s 1st Christmas aisle.
Uncategorized | Comment (0)IT’S HARVEST TIME
As we were traveling to Arkansas for a Dr. appointment this past week, we couldn’t help but notice the cotton in the fields on both sides of the highway. It was white for a far as you could see in both directions. Normally the harvest would be nearly over by this time of the year. However, we’ve had a lot of rain in October in the “Bootheel” of Missouri and the harvest was delayed this year. We’ve had no rain in November so the harvest is in full swing. Seems the late soybean crops are nearly over, but the cotton ginning is going strong. All of this reminded me of my childhood when all of the cotton was picked by hand, placed in a 9-foot sack, dragged up and down the rows of cotton until it was full, then dumped into a cotton trailer. The cotton trailer was then taken to the gin for the ginning process. I can remember as a small child, going to town with my grandpa’s “sharecropper” who farmed his small farm of less than 30 acres. He would take me & some of his kids with him to the gin in his wood-sided cotton trailer, pulled by a team of horses, because my “Pa” was a ginner at the cotton gin. It was always a treat to get to go to town in the cotton wagon. Boy, have things changed. Now, a “cotton picker” is not a person but a machine that harvests the cotton. It is then dumped into a module builder, molded into a module, placed on the perimeter of the field to be picked up by a truck built for this purpose & taken to the gin. As I sit in our office writing this blog I can hear the sounds from two cotton gins within 1/2 mile of our business.
I know you’re wondering “Is the old man rambling or is there a point to this story?” Sure there is, without COTTON, there wouldn’t be a MomandBabyPlace. Without cotton, we wouldn’t have very many products to offer. Almost all of our clothing line is 100% cotton. A few of our products are a blend of cotton & polyester.
Our “Baby Milano” brand of Baby Onesies including, Organic, Camo, Tuxedo, and Tie Die are all 100 % cotton. They also offer Shirts, Pants & accessories including Baby Blankets, Baby Burp Cloths, Baby Bibs, Baby Quilts, & Fitted Cloth Diapers. A lot of our products can also be personalized with Name or Initials. Check out our Monogram shop.
Some of our new line of “Baby Diaper Cakes” & “Baby Gift Baskets” include cloth diapers, burp cloths, baby bibs, Baby Blankets which are also 100% cotton. Cotton and all of the jobs it creates is very important to the economy of our community, state, & nation. So, when you have the opportunity to buy something made with cotton, you’re helping to create jobs and help our economic situation get better.

We had a severe ice storm in SE Missouri on Jan 26, 2009 which resulted in the loss of electricity for 1 week to over a month, depending on where you lived. Consequently there were no lights, heat or television during this time. To keep warm, it was early bedtime and lots of “snuggling”. Results — lots of expectant mothers which are due any time now!
We at MomandBabyPlace are ready for the “delivery” with a great assortment of unique Baby Gift Baskets for the newborn and parents. We also have a lot of baby clothing, including sweaters, sweat suits and long sleeve shirts, and plush baby blankets to keep baby warm during the upcoming winter months.
